Death Is a Blonde
Mr. Mountain had a perfect murder, all right. He didn’t make one mistake. However, Mr. Mountain wasn’t a very nice character. Neither was Mrs. Pennypacker. You aren’t going to like them a bit... but you won’t put DEATH IS A BLONDE down until you see what happened to them!
Talmage Powell is an “atmosphere” writer. Most of you have seen his stories before, in this and other magazines, so you know that his tales are usually set somewhere in the deep South — and his people are seldom Boy or Girl Scouts. But he has a knack of making you feel the creepy surroundings, the sinister heat... and he does so especially in this story you’re going to read now.
We might add that meeting Talmage Powell (who is young, boyish, and extremely nice) is contradictory: where does he think up these characters?, you ask... but he does, and he does it well, and he has done a very good job in DEATH IS A BLONDE.
